Bad Weather... Again & SUPER BOWL XLI
"Well It Finally Happened"

That's the way it's been feeling around here. After a week of freezing temperatures and a huge ice storm that shut everything down, the weather men are now calling for a massive snow storm to hit this area Friday night and Saturday. Six to ten inches of snow is predicted. Don't get me wrong, I like a little winter weather, but this is far and above what's usual for the town of Childress. Last week church services were cancelled. I hope that doesn't happen again this Sunday. I need my Sunday fix of my Father, friends and fellowship.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, with Superbowl XLI right around the corner, here are a few thoughts for you about past Super Bowls.

1) SB XXXVI: Patriots 20, Rams 17
2) SB XXV: Giants 20, Bills 19
3) SB XXXIV: Rams 23, Titans 16
4) SB XXXII: Broncos 31, Packers 24
5) SB XXXVIII: Patriots 32, Panthers 29

1) SB III: Jets 16, Colts 7
2) SB XXXVI: Patriots 20, Rams 17
3) SB XXXII: Broncos 31, Packers 24
4) SB IV: Chiefs 23, Vikings 7
5) SB XVIII: Raiders 38, Redskins 9

1) SB XXXIV: Mike Jones tackles Kevin Dyson one yard short of potential game-tying touchdown as time expires
2) (tie) SB XXXVI: Adam Vinatieri wins Super Bowl with 48-yard field goal on game's final play(tie) SB XXXVIII: Adam Vinatieri wins Super Bowl with 41-yard field goal with :04 left
3) SB XXIII: Joe Montana hits John Taylor for game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XXIII with 34 seconds left
4) SB V: Jim O'Brien kicks 32-yard field goal with five seconds left
5) SB XXXI: Desmond Howard's 99-yard kickoff return after Patriots closed to 27-21

1) SB XIII: Jackie Smith drops certain TD pass on 3rd down, Dallas forced to kick field goal in 35-31 loss
2) SB XXV: Scott Norwood misses potential game-winning 47-yard field goal on game's final play
3) SB XXX: Neil O'Donnell throws second INT to Larry Brown in game's final minutes, sealing Steelers' loss
4) SB V: Craig Morton tosses interception to the Colts' Mike Curtis in the final moments, which sets up Jim O'Brien's game-winning kick
5) SB XXXVIII: After Carolina tied the game at 29-29 with just over a minute left, Panthers kicker John Kasay sent the ensuing kickoff out of bounds to give Tom Brady & the Patriots field position at the 40-yard line for game-winning drive

1) SB III: Joe Namath three days before the game, "We're going to win Sunday. I guarantee you."
2) SB I: Vince Lombardi after Packers beat Chiefs 35-10, "I don't think Kansas City compares with the best teams in the NFL. Dallas is a better team. There. That's what you wanted me to say, isn't it?"
3) SB XXIII: Cris Collinsworth to Bengals teammate before Joe Montana's game-winning drive for 49ers, after teammate began prematurely celebrating, "Don't you see who's at quarterback out there?"
4) SB XIII: Cowboys linebacker Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, "Terry Bradshaw couldn't spell 'cat' if you spotted him the 'C' and the 'A.'"
5) SB XXII: Reporter to Redskins quarterback Doug Williams, "How long have you been a black quarterback?"

  1. What's your pick for Super Bowl XLI? Give me both teams and score.

  2. What was your favorite Super Bowl and why?

Trey, I was wondering about services this morning myself. NOAA isn't saying anything about having a "chance" of snow or giving percentages. Their just saying SNOW & giving estimated accumulations. I'm missing it too. At least we had Wednesday night this week.

I had forgotten about Hollywood Henderson saying that about Bradshaw. That's my all time favorite quote.

This year's superbowl is a tuff one. I'd like to see the Saints get there & beat the Colts 31-28.

I don't have a single favorite; I have several.....all the ones that Jim Kelly & the Bills lost!

Trey, my call is a rematch of '85 Bears and Pats. It all depends on if Good Rex or Bad Rex shows up on Sunday. As we've seen before, it isn't the best bet to pick against Tom Brady in the playoffs. I say New England 24, Chicago 21.

Favorite SB: Brett Favre's 1996 stomping. Favre is as tough as they come.

I'm going to go out on a limb here because the Bears are my favorite team yet. Get on Grossman all you want I still think he's an alright QB. Tom Brady is great in the playoffs but I'm taking the Bears 20-16 over the Patriots. (Colts have a hard time beating the Pats in teh playoffs sorry Peyton)

I dont have a favorite super bowl memory because Tom Brady got the best of the Panthers a few years ago. But my favorite World Series moment was in 2001 when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees in game 7 with the Luis Gonzales bloop single over 2nd base. I also like the 04 Red Sox because they came back from being down 3-0 to the yankees and beat them out of the playoffs. They then went on and crushed the Cardinals. That was a good year. (I hate the Yanks and the Cardinals)

Ryno ... You make me laugh ... only you could change everything over to baseball.

My call is two new teams in the SB. Colts and Saints. It'll be Colts winning over Saints 24-21, on the foot of Vinatieri with :04 seconds to go in the game. Vinatieri will go down in history as the greatest clutch kicker in NFL history (unlike Mike Vanderjagt previously of the Cowboys).

Favorite SB memories: Gotta love those 1992 Cowboys. No one expected them to go to the big game. Then they KILLED the Bills. And who can forget Leon Lett being run down by Don Beebe. I also exactly where I was when Scott Norwood went "wide right" with one second to go and lost the SB for the Bills and the Giants won. Wow, that was a great SB.

Im pulling for the colts but i think it just depends on if manning chokes sunday or not. Colts should have won one a long time ago but i think this year is the year.

Trey,

Hope you guys keep your electricity. We're expecting some snow as well but most weeks we've been out of the ice belt.

We've had to cancel church a couple of Sunday nights recently, but we would probably have to be nuked before we would cancel Sunday morning. We're one of THOSE churches.

I've been through Childress a million times on my way to Abilene for short courses. Glad to know you, if only though blogging so far.

Trey you do a great job and I agree, one of the best moments of Super Bowl history is Dyson reaching for the goal line as time expires and just coming up short for the ultimate prize in football. Here's my pick, we'll see if I know anything.

Colts 37
Saints 35

on a 46 yard game winning field goal

Sorry Trey, that last post was by Ches Tucker but the score will still be right, even though I'm afraid of Brady.

Favorite Super Bowl memories were the Cowboys back to back victories against the Bills in '92 & '93.

Going out on a big limb with women's intuition:

Saints 24
Patriots 21

Trey,

As for the Super Bowl The Colts (maybe but this is from a man who has watched parts of a few games this season.)

I ran accross you on Neva's blog. Blogs are a good way for me to touch base and hear what is happening. Some of your previous posts were of greater interest t5han football (I know heresy).

Last Sunday we too canceled services. It is hard to not have the larger body together but my family met at the building anyway. My kids being typical pk or the like, play church regularly. Sunday was like playing church in some ways with the kids taking turns sharing a part. They offered more than the typical childrens songs. One of my daughters has a new favorite song. "In the Morning of Joy" is not about my daughter Kyli Joy but Kobi knows there is great joy in that song and so requests it every chance she gets. My thougth was not the prepared sermon but a brief lesson on what worship is versus playing church, and how we can worship even by ourselves or in a small family group. My kids teach me so much.
