OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD (Sermon Link Included)
Is it just me or does it seem that we've lost our sense of just how awesome God is? I think the church and our nation has forgotten just how unbelievably awesome God is. We somehow need to rediscover what an awesome God we have. How will we ever be willing to jump and trust Him to catch us if we don't think He's strong enough.

One reason I believe we have lost our view of God's awesomeness is we've grown comfortable with the greatness of God. He doesn't "wow" us anymore. His power doesn't blow us away. It's like living in the great Rocky Mountains so long that you quit noticing their grandeur. It is essential that we restore our view of God's awesomeness.

To restore back the Biblical view of God's awesomeness and greatness, we'll have to do three things:

  1. We'll have to rediscover His nature, His power and His awesomeness. He's not a toothless old grandfather who sits back and wags His finger at the world and says, "You better not do that, grandpa might spank you." Nor is God a heavenly policeman looking to catch you doing something wrong just so He can take you to spiritual jail (hell). (Psalm 94:1-7)

  2. We'll have to see God's power. God is a God so powerful and so awesome that the Israelites feared to even speak His name. He's the God that got tired of putting up with evil, so he flooded the earth with water. He wiped out Sodom & Gomorrah with the swipe of His hand. The same God you pray to is the very same God who told the Israelite parents, "If your children don't respect you, you take them out and stone them." We must realize that if we ever want to put the zip back in our zeal and the gusto back in our worship we'll see God again for who He is.... an awesome, powerful God who has the strength to crush us. (Proverbs 1:7)

  3. We have to understand that God doesn't crush us, but instead wraps His arms around us and says, "I love you with all my heart." When we realize how much He loves us, we'll begin to trust him as our powerful God who can get us through our troubles. (Psalm 91:1-2).

This is part of the sermon I preached this Sunday on, "Our God is An Awesome God." The above notes are a brief introduction and outline you can use to follow along if you want. Here's the link to the sermon: click here.

(Caution: If you're uncomfortable with humor in sermons ... you might want to skip this one!)

I have to take up for myself a little about one of Trey's comments yesterday. There are only 14 items in our shower, and 6 of them are HIS. (Yes, I actually went & counted.) Ha! If he doesn't know what any of them are, I'm extremely concerned. If you haven't noticed by now, he exaggerates ever so slightly.(;

I haven't listened to the sermon yet (will have to wait till kids are down for a nap if I want to really listen)but I have to agree with what I have read so far. I think in part, that we don't totally and completely give ourselves over to God so He can work on us and fine tune us to see His awesomeness. We only give Him mixed parts and say "do what you can with that- good luck." Only when we completely give ourselves to God can we experience is total greatness. (That is what I think anyway- and I am more preaching to myself than to anyone else! :)

trey-
Listened. Good sermon.

The humor isn't what you need to warn folks about.
IT'S THE EASTER BUNNY - TOOTH FAIRY SPOILER!!!

Dude- I'm confused. What are you saying about the EB and the Fairy. I always pictured the TF more like Rachel Welch.

don

OK... now what?

HA HA Don, I wanted to talk about the guy in the red suit that comes around each December 25th, but I thought that might be taking things a little far. ha

I do like the Rachel Welch thing though! ha

Hmm ... can we get one of your kids to confirm how many items are in the shower and how many belong to Trey?? :) Thanks for shedding light on Trey's penchant for exaggerating, Lea. I hope I get to meet you someday. :)

Don ... have you been spending too much time with Brian ("dude")? What is up with this Rachel Welch thing anyway? Are you talking about Raquel Welch? Dude, she's old.

lisa-
Do not dis the Welch or the Loren. Age has no effect. "she's old"... I must leave now... I...am at a loss for words.

Trey forgive lisa. Sorry for stepping on your post....... bye!

Lisa,
She is still beautiful. I respect that men can appreciate that.
Lea,
Howdy! Glad you could tattle a little and know that my husband falsely (accuses) exaggerates too. We have finally compromised and have found shampoo, conditioner and body soaps that work for both of us. So there are only 6 items in our shower including my son's shampoo. James is welcome to use my razor on his legs... anytime he wants.
My goal is get rid of dial up so I'll be able to hear your sermons - I would never skip a humorous one on purpose.

I was just being silly about using the word "dude," don't want anyone thinking I was insulting Raquel Welch. Okay?

Yeah, Kathy, I'd like to get rid of dial-up too so I can hear Trey's sermons. One of these days ... "oh to be wireless!"
