I-POD
My old mp3 player finally wore out so I've upgraded. I love my new I-Pod. I've just got through loading a ton of stuff on it.

Here are some songs you'll find on my I-Pod.

  • "Awesome God" - Acappella Praise & Worship

  • "How deep the Father's love for us" - Zoe

  • "You raised me up" - Selah

  • "My Redeemer lives" - Nicole C. Mulen

  • "We're ready" - Boston

  • "Away from the sun" - 3 Doors Down

  • "Animal" - Def Leppard

  • "Even Flow" - Pearl Jam

  • "Home" - Daughtry

  • "If every one cared" - Nickelback

  • "100 Years" - 5 For Fighting

As you can tell I like a wide variety of music. You'll never find me without some Classic Rock close by. As for worship music, Acapella's Praise & Worship CD "Heaven is in My Heart" is fantastic.

As for movies on my I-Pod (it's going to be a long bus ride to Mexico City next month):

  • A Night at the Museum

  • The Incredibles

  • 3 Episodes of Spongebob Squarepants (I'm hooked)

What you won't ever find on my I-Pod:

  • Rap music

  • Country music

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • Rolling Stones

  • Justin Timberlake

I also enjoy listening to sermons ... here are some I regularly listen to:

I'm really loving this new I-Pod. So, what would you put on your I-Pod?

I can't believe you have "A Night at the Museum" on your I-Pod to keep. That was the dumbest, funny movie I have seen lately. May I ask why you don't listen to some music with David Slater from Harding CD's? Jeanne M.

At 8:48 AM, Blogger AncientWanderer said...

OK, you purposely put Stevie Ray in there to illicit a comment... so here it is.

No Country!- Well that's just bad taste on your part :)

No Justin Timberlake- at least you aren't totally tasteless :)

Wait I just saw "Daughtry" you may NOT have taste in music.

And "Def Leppard"?- that's just bad heavy metal lite.

How can any body travel to Mexico or any distance and not have Willie Nelson or Lynyrd Skynyrd or ZZ Top??? I am disappointed :(

Jeanne,

I love dumb, funny movies like Dumb and Dumber, Christmas Vacation and others. As for David Slater ... don't know about him. I'll have to see if I can find some songs by him. Sometimes I'm the last to hear about good music.

At 8:52 AM, Blogger TREY MORGAN said...

AW ... I do have Skynyrd (that's as close to Country as I can handle) and lots of ZZ top, but I can't do the blues of Stevie Ray. And Willie? We'll I am still under 50. Ask me about him in 10 more years. ha ha

Trey,
My wife just got a Video Ipod it is awesome she was nice enough to download some U2 for me and even a video of a u2 interview from way back when.

I think hers is 32G or more something like that..She can download movies, tunes, CD's, music, games, many other features that we haven't even checked out yet; it is so cool. Thanks for the sermon recommendations I had no idea about Bill Hybels. I knew about Joel Osteen.
Again thanks for this post.

AW,
I'll have to have her put some Metallica on for me.

At 9:03 AM, Blogger AncientWanderer said...

OK, OK, OK

Willie speaks to the heart and soul. Besides his greatest song ever was a double Texan hit IT WAS WRITTEN BY Townes Van Zandt. Check out Townes... he's dead but his music lives on. He is more of a lyricist than a singer, I'll warn you.

OK, OK, OK... I'm OK now.

--------
Preacherman- yeh IF you have to go Metal at least go legit "Heavy".

At 9:13 AM, Blogger preacherman said...

Legit Heavy mmmmm....
Van Halen not Van Hagar

What about Soundgarden? Nirvana? STP? Dave Mathews?

preacherman-
Dave Matthews? Why not just cross on over to MIKA :)

At 10:19 AM, Blogger preacherman said...

MIKA?
Who is that?

I do like everything from Jazz to Thrash.

At 10:23 AM, Blogger preacherman said...

Trey,
You have to put on some bluegrass on your Ipod just for fun...A great song is Man of Constant Sorrows from the soundtrack "O'Brother Where Art Thou"

At 10:32 AM, Blogger Liz Moore said...

For Christian music I love Zoe, Free Indeed, Casting Crowns...

For classic rock, how about some Foreigner, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Heart, Kansas, Journey... I could go on :)

Of course now I'm jealous, because I am still not hip enough to have an Ipod :)

At 11:46 AM, Blogger TREY MORGAN said...

Dave Matthews is a big yes. Nirvana I liked for a while, but burned out fast. Love STP.

And don't tell anyone but I do have "Man of Constant Sorrows" on my IPod, but it's the only bluegrass on there.

I can do Foreigner, Heart, Kansas and Journey, but the others not really.

I love Selah and would enjoy the rest of your Christian list. Mine non-Christian list would include Paul Simon and Jimmy Buffet.

Unfortunately, mine would probably have Dora the Explorer, and other kid songs on it.
What is the Incredible?

James is a big Willie and Don Williams fan.

60s Rock (maybe up to 1972)
Some Country
Some Jazz

What you won't find
disco
new wave
punk
rap

What about Bob?

Trey realy would be cool to have a board like cocn.org has!

I would definitely leave off the sermons! I am facing 3 this weekend and thinking this is way too much.

Trey, how can one live in Texas and not listen to country music? Hmmm.

I would fill mine full of worship music. My favorite CD right now is an Integrity Worship CD called "no boundaries". Actually it is two CD's.

Can you download books onto IPOD's. Now I could go for that!

As far as movies.....I am and will always be a sucker for Sound of Music. Tells my age that one does. And the Harry Potter movies. And Lord of the Rings.

Maybe some TV shows like CSI or Criminal Minds. Can you load those on?

I can't even afford an IPOD. Are they paying you too much at this church? :-)

Trey,
You definitely have good taste in music!

BTW, Spongebob trivia can be a lifesaver! My youngest child ended up in the ER a while back, and one staff member used his Spongebob knowledge to make our visit much less traumatic. They were meowing like Gary in no time. :)

I was so thankful!

Trey thank you for your support and friendship. I want to tell all your friends how much you have helped me over time. I also think you are a great christian man and people can tell this by your fruit! I made a promise back a few months ago to God that I wouldn't use the internet anymore and that I would let myself be a tool for God in every day life. I have decided to leave the internet for a great while to see what He has in store for me. God Bless Trey and his family as he continues to do Your will! God help him relise that anything is possible with You behind him. Do all things whole heartedly! Amen! Good Bye My Friend!

Trey, you like Chinese food so much. Can you tell me if PFChang China Bistro is any good? An new one is being built near us, and although I don't like a lot of Chinese food (and my DH likes even less), there might be something on the menu we would like. Any hints?

Where in Mexico are you going? My niece and her family go every year to help build church buildings, teach and help where needed. Great work!

I like Night at the Musuem too. I also love (can't believe I'm confessing this in public) Dumb and Dumber. There it's out. I feel better :)

My Redeemer Lives is awesome! Very powerful and also try to find the song Face to Face. I think the Ambassodors from Freed did it last. It's one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. Very powerful! If you can't find it I'll try to for you.

By the way, not all country is bad :)

If I had an iPOD:
(I'd iPOD in the morning, I'd iPOD in the evening ...)

Songs/artist you would find:
Obviously something by PPM, Kathy already outed me on Don Williams, (But that is good clean country)mostly Christian music,Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline, Selah, Dennis Jernigan, Supertones, City On a Hil ...

songs artist you would not:
all the junk I used to listen to when not following Christ, ie sinful rock and roll (AC DC, Zeplin, et al).

Movies:
probably not much in the way of movies, they take up too much room. If any, I might include something funny that does not include dumb or vacation in the title.

Sermons
OK I too will admit to listening to Joel O'Steen. His messages are not all bad. I do have a problem with every conclusion, "we never want to end a service without ...". I would enjoy sermons by lots of different people. Can you take stuff off without wasting a lot of memory, or does the stuff keep part of the memory even when erased?

In conclusion, I like the question asked earlier. Are they paying you too much?

Where's my iPOD? Why don't I have an iPOD? Not everyone has an iPOD. You're going to get nasty letters....

Nice to find another Def Leppard fan. I think that's the only metal band from my youth that I still listen to on a rare occasion. Good harmonies, cool one-armed drummer. (Yes, questionable lyrics at times.)

If I had an iPod, It would be 98% worship or Christian Contemporary music, as that's pretty much all I listen to these days. How boring is that? But, hey, vanilla IS my favorite ice cream...

After I posted last night I got to thinking about the old music. I might include The Greatful Dead. There was a concert I'm am pretty sure where I was the only sober one.

Hey Trey ... first of all, thanks for the mention. I appreciate it. I'll check out your podcast host...I hate mine ... it is terrible to try to upload anything to.

As for music, it's hard to know that other people do not enjoy the music you like so much. Isn't it funny how some music appeals to some people, but not others? I mean ... maybe you do have to be middle aged to appreciate the lonesome appeal of Waylon's "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" ... or maybe not. Anyway ... looking at my iPod right now ... I have over 2200 songs / podcasts on my iPod. I'll never listen to all of it. I will tell you, though, that one guy I will be listening to EVERY time he has something new is David Houston of Hillsong Church in Australia. How uplifting ... encouraging .... down to earth ... funny ... fantastic.

I also listen to the Relevant Magazine Podcast, but it's nothing of substance...just fun to listen to.

If I were going on a trip, I would download the last season of LOST and re-watch it. Awesome story!

Other necessities:

Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion and also The Writer's Almanac.

Best of You Tube (sometimes needs to be edited, 90% of the time it's clean fun)

If you haven't watched the HOPE IS EMO series, you are in for a laugh-fest.

NPR's Car Talk Call of the Week is a good laugh.

Ravi Zacharias has two podcasts...one short, one long. They are both excellent.

XXXChurch's podcast is good. You won't go to sleep if you're driving.

Brian's 1 Year Daily Audio Bible is 30 minutes of Bible reading daily.

DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE is John Piper's weekly video offering...very well done...lasts only a few minutes.

Mars Hill Bible Church for Rob Bell's sermons.

Lifechurch.tv: worship for some good worship music.

I know...a long list... but I keep mine loaded (there's plenty of room) for trips and for daily walks. I have many more, but I seldom listen to them...just occasionally.

MUSIC: I'm all about contemporary Christian. I have the other stuff...but 85% of my music on the iPod is Christian. My current favorite two:

Casting Crowns Lifesong CD and Hillsong United All of the Above CD. Both are awesome.

Sorry for the long post ... I love my iPod ... I usually watch a video or two late in the evening... listen to the sermons when walking...music when driving... it's a great product!
