GOD SEES YOU AND HE SMILES
Monday was the first day of Kindergarten for our youngest son, Cooper. Cooper did really well on his first day. His momma didn’t.

That afternoon when I heard the kids out for recess I looked out my office window and searched for Cooper on his first day of school. When I finally spotted him I couldn't help but smiled. He was so beautiful and I felt so proud that he was my son. I wished so badly that he knew that I was close by and watching him. I thought that might help comfort him as he felt so alone on his first day of school. As I watched him I realized that I loved seeing him play and it made me happy to see him having fun. And then, all of a sudden he looked sad, and my heart broke into a million pieces.

As I stood there watching Cooper I couldn't help but think about God watching us, His children. When He looks down and sees you He smiles and He is so proud that you are His child. You are so beautiful to Him. He loves watching you when you are happy and playing. And then, when you are sad, it breaks His heart into a million pieces.

God wants you to know you're not alone today. He sees you and smiles. God is good.

I have a soft spot for your Cooper. Cooper is my maiden name and I like to see a good, handsome man wear that name.

God loves us so much that He allows us to hurt. It also means God hurts when He looks upon us and sees us hurting! But the glorious message, as Paul Harvey says, 'The rest of the story...' is God has promised...not suggested, or alluded to but PROMISED that one day, one glorious day, He's taking us home to be forever in His arms. So for today I'm hurting, today God's hurting, but we have the promised hope that He will bring us home!
Love ya Trey!

A good message that most of us need to be reminded of daily (myself included). Cooper is a good-looking kid. I hope that the transition is not too rough on you and Lea. My wife and I don't even have kids yet, but I know that she is going to be a weepy mess when we have to send them off to school. I am sure that it will be worth it, though.

This is a really sweet and comforting post, Trey. My kids are all grown and I have grandkids starting kindergarten, but I still remember how it was sending them off to school when they were little. It was hard.

I still miss having them around all the time and SO enjoy being with them when we have the chance to visit. I am very close to my two boys, David & Mark, and my daughter, Rebecca. I love my kids dearly and want them to always be happy, too.

Thanks for the reminder that God is there when we are sad and hurting. That is very comforting to me.

Great post! It is great to feel closer to the heart of God.

I can only imagine how Lea must feel. She has had a lot of years with little boy energy around. I will pray for her today.

I was having a hard time last week and my best friend use a very similar analogy to comfort me. She said that just as we anticipate a new born (she's pregnant) God anticipates our new birth and loves to see us grow up in His ways like we enjoy seeing our kids. This was a very similar thought and I really appreciate seeing it that way.

BTW I still have 3 years before Ky goes off to school.

Your blogs are always worthy of a visit (even if I'm not a NASCAR fan), but this one is especially good.

The only thing that can truly give us a glimpse of how much God loves us are these children he has blessed us with...

Does God also think... do i have to make some grace soup again??? or... "quit praying so loud, i've got to sleep." or "for the hundredth time, please wash your hands." (insert sarcasm here)

Ryan "aka #5"

I've prayed for you all week. You've made a huge step in life going off to college by yourself for the first time. So much of Cooper's story relates to you and how your mom and dad feel about you. They (and I too) are very proud of you. God's going to do amazing things in your life and with your life. You potential and influence is "off the chart."

Hang in there. Do what's right. And pray for wisdom everyday.

Love,

You're second dad

Trey, my heart started hurting when you talked about Cooper being sad. Does this big, mean Tia need to come and beat someone up? In the Christian way of course!
