FOR MEN ONLY
Tonight I'm starting something I've been wanting to do for awhile. Tonight at 9 p.m. I'm having a men's only bible study, for men and about men.

And where should men have a Bible study? And where do real men study the Bible? Only a manly place will work for men. If we’re going to learn to be MEN like the Bible teaches us to be, we can’t have meeting in a flower shop, fabric store or a Hobby Lobby. But a Bible study in a garage sounds like something men could do! So, tonight I have about 14 men from church and from the community who have committed to coming to this Bible study in my garage to learn how to be better men.

Very simply, Samson will teach us why strong men fail. And as a Christian man, a husband and as a dad I don't want to fail.

We’re going to be studying a book called, "The Samson Syndrome." The book will deal with many of the topics men struggle with today like lust, boundaries, ego, foolish risks, intimacy, etc! The book will cover Samson’s life and what we can learn the baddest boy in the Bible. The book is about a man in the Bible who was James Bond-like in his attitude and lifestyle. Samson, whose story is told in four chapters of the book of Judges, was young, strong, good-looking, cocky, courageous, and an incorrigible ladies man. He had a nose for trouble, a knack for hair-raising escapes, and more girlfriends than Radio City has Rockettes. If Samson was alive today he'd be a superstar athlete or an action-movie star. He'd be surrounded by popping flashbulbs and adorning groupies. But, very simply Samson will teach us why strong men fail. As a Christian man, a husband and as a dad I don't want to fail.

I'm excited about this Bible study. The reason we're starting at 9 p.m. is so those dad's with small children can still help get their kids in bed and then come to the Bible study. If you're from Childress and would like to come ... feel free to drop by. Since we're men, I’ll have a cooler full of cold beverages (cokes and water of course) and a few snacks that won't include girly foods like crescents, quiche or raspberry tea! We should be through by 10 p.m. See you at the garage tonight!

If any women try to listen in, take them to a hobby shop, you won't see them for hours. I know one thing for sure they are all going to ask their husbands about what was studied and talked about each class night, especially "did you say anything about me?" Good post and good study. God bless you all. P.S. You should hear what women talk about in their class once in awhile. gmj

One thing that worked really well for me in a similar study was to take the guys on good ol' fashion skeet shoot. Nothing gets guys to open up like blowing something up with a shotgun.

Blessings!

Sounds like a good time and a good study, Trey. My only problem is that the only thing I can do in a garage is have a Bible study. Never ask me to fix anything...you'll be sorry:)

I have been thinking about starting a Bible study this fall for men just before the Sunday night football game. I'm thinking about studying from Tony Dungy's book, "Quiet Strength," and then watching the game with the guys. (We don't have a Sunday night service at the building, so it could work out well...I think.)

I hope you guys enjoy it!

Waffle House, shotguns and Sunday night football - now that's some testosterone items!

Trey,

I am glad you are starting a men's bible study group. I am thinking of doing the same, but instead, concentrating more on praying together.

FWIW, Samson was a man riddled with flaws but to me, he died valiantly. I will remember him not for the flaws, but for how he died.

Consequently, the judge we usual esteem the most, Gideon, is the one who ended his life in a mess. Early on, his life was very positive, but later in life he caused Israel to sin egregiously. His son remembered not his former days, but instead the latter.

My prayers are with you and your efforts. Your site has made a tremendous impact on my outlook of things. For that, I am eternally grateful.

A garage? That's awesome! Our Monday night group meets in a mouse infested workshop out in the boonies. Creepy at first, but most of the guys like it because we are dealing with sexual addiction issues. Less of a chance someone will see them I guess.

I don't really know what your expectations are. Right now, it might be that people just show up. My hope is that as you guys start metting regularly and a familiarity builds amongst the guys in the group. That way, when someone needs to share an issue he's experiencing, the group is more open to receive what they are hearing. That's when God shows up in my opinion, becasue I garantee you someone else is dealing with or has dealt with that issue, no matter what it is. Once that tranparancy boundry is broken, the group will never be the same. And that's a good thing, especially when someone loses that "I'm not alone" weight that's on his shoulders.

I have been fortunate enough to be a part of two men's groups in the past 3-4 years. There have been some amazing times in those groups. What's funny is that those times are usually the days I really didn't want to go.

Someone in Hernando MS will be praying for you guys at 9 CDT tonight. Have fun and enjoy it.

I can just hear 'Tim the Tool man' (from home improvement) making that manly sound that he makes! Meeting in a garage, sounds cool! I know Kent would love to be able to be at things like that, too bad we're too far. Hope it goes well!

Okay my northern self finally got a blogger name. I resisted the urge to use Favre's name in some way :-) And yes, the mourning still goes on here.

Anyway, love the blog look and PLEASE TAKE MY HUSBAND! I would love control of the remote for one night!

Doug and Todd - thanks for your prayers and encouragement.

Dixie - Tim the Toolman would be very welcome.

Fillmycup - Favre will be missed. Your husband would be welcome, but he might just actually bring the remote with him. :)

Oh my goodness, Trey, I LOVE the new layout. Whoever put this together for you deserves a big reward. You've got a great site here and I've long-since hoped that you could get a template that really matched the quality.

And great class idea, by the way!
