SWEET LITTLE OLD LADIES
Lea hasn't always been the only girl for me. There have been others. Nine or ten to be exact, and all of them over the age of 70. They were the sweetest group of Christian ladies that I fell in love with years ago. When Lea and I moved to Tulia in 1992, we got involved with a group of "little old widow ladies." Lea and I took them to movies, plays, Bible studies, Christmas pageants and other outings. Twice we took this group of ladies on a week long trip to New Mexico to the Red River Family Encampment. They used to tease me about keeping a sharp eye on them because they were planning on sneaking out at night and going "man hunting." They were loads of fun.
Although time has passed, our friendship with these ladies has remained strong. A few have already gone on to be with the Lord. As promised, I've done each of their funerals. Today I travel to Tulia to do Mary's funeral (second from the right). I'll miss her. As each of these ladies pass away it just makes getting to heaven someday a little sweeter.

The picture was taken at a hotel, saloon and restaurant in Clayton, New Mexico. I like to have never talked them into posing for this picture because they didn't want to stand in front of a "saloon" sign.
Have you ever had a "sweet little old lady" that you fell in love with?

That whole pure and undefiled religion thing gets overlooked sometimes. Thanks for sharing about your ladies.
Sounds like a fun group of ladies! I think it's really sweet and a testament to how you changed their lives that they all want you to do their services. Keep up the great work Trey!
Trey – I really appreciate this post…I have a lot of older ladies in my life who have been used by God to mold me into the person I am today…or should I say the good parts of the person I am today.
I remember one older lady in particular…she would always meet me at the back door after my sermon and say…”I’m praying for you honey…you’re gonna make a preacher someday,” (I knew exactly what she meant by that) then she would smile, give me a hug, and walk out the door. I’m so thankful for those little old ladies who pray and encourage us to live bolder for God…they have a very important place in the Kingdom.
I'm praying for your day...
I loved your blog today, more people need to love and care for our elderly. I'm proud that you are one. I'm a few months short of
75 and I know how we need to be loved and showed it. I have lots of family, friends, and my church family is wonderful. gmc
mike and i also have a special place in our hearts for a few of these ladies. . . send on our love when you are with them today. we miss that beautiful congregation and all the love in it!!!
Oh, and I had a little old lady. Her name was Chaz, and she was a lady that went to the little country church where my Pappy was a preacher. I was about 8 years old, and she always had mints for me and liked it when I sat with her at church. For my birthday, she gave me a copy of a book of poetry and wrote in it. I didn't understand much of the poetry, but carried the book all over the place because it was shiny and had pretty pictures. She was a cool lady.
Trey...You and Lea have the greatest heart. What a wonderful life y'all represent!!! And how lucky these little ladies are to have known y'all. I'll keep you in my prayers, bc I know it is hard to lose even a sweet little old lady...
You did a great job today. I had a great talk with Mary at Christmas time. We laughed and laughed, I am so thankful for that brief time with her that day. Many of the ladies pictured are just a few of my favorites and our kids favorites.
...found your blog through a link to the latest designs by your blog designer....
Great blog!
...and those sweet little old ladies...I so envy the ones who are already Home! What a glorious day that's going to be --when our eyes meet His - face to face. ...I can only imagine!
Yep. Her name was Beulah. She was a patient in my grandmother's rest home many years ago. I think about her often and how lucky I will be one day to see her again.

Trey, you're making me homesick for Clayton!! I haven't been to the Eklund for a good meal since November, and that's waaay too long! Thanks for sharing this story about the other girls in your life. I loved it. What an awesome ministry you and Lea share.
Trey, It was great to see you today! Mary was a very special lady! You did a great job of showing what she lived her life for! anna
Your post really makes me miss home. I enjoyed these ladies as well as many others in the Tulia CofC that I became close to. I've had several special "sweet little old ladies" in my life. I know you did a wonderful service for Mary.
Van - I thought about you when I put that picture up. I knew you'd know all about that place.
Anna - It was great to see you today.
Brooke - Tulia misses you and so do I. Love ya
I was scrolling through your blog when I recognized Granmom. She really is awesome, huh? Don't plan on doing her funeral anytime soon--I still need her.
With love, Cindy George
Thanks, Trey to you and Lea for being so sweet and special to my sweet little old grandmother. She has blessed so many and you have too!
Blessings,
Shana
