The Bag Phone was my first phone.I remember this conversation with my mom in the 90's, "Mom, you are NOT going to believe where I'm calling you from... MY CAR! I'm in my car, driving around. I got one of those new cellular phones in a bag." I thought technology had reached it's peak when we were able to leave the house and still use a phone.
After the bag phone I upgrade to this "the brick" or the "loaf of bread" as some called it. It had those nicknames because it was about the size of a loaf of bread. When you carried this bad boy around the hospital or restaurant, everyone knew you had a cell phone, because you couldn't hide it even if you wanted to.
Then the Motorola flip phone came along and I upgraded again. It was sleek, small and really cool. I loved flipping down the little flap, just so you could talk.
As I write this I can just imagine myself 40 years from now as technology has passed me by. I'm an old man that is sitting on a porch in a rocker. Some kids come walking up and I say (use your old man voice here), "You young whipper-snappers don't even know what it was like back in my day. Back when I was a kid we couldn't go beaming ourselves around here, there and everywhere we wanted to go to talk to people. No, when I was a kid, I used to have to place a call on a cell phone when I needed to talk to someone."
And I can hear them laugh and respond, "A cell phone... what's that?"
I'll then yell back in my grouchy old man tone, "You young punks get on out of here, you're wasting my time." "Lea? Honey? Will you bring me a bowl of cereal, I'm hungry!"

When I got my first phone (a bag phone) I remember being embarassed to tell my parents. Then a couple of days later my Dad called and said you need to get one of those phones for your car since you travel so much by yourself or with just the kids. Only then did I tell him I had one.
...and I still only use mine for calling and taking calls. I do use the alarm clock once a week so I won't be late for an early a.m. prayer breakfast.

I am a Blackberry Pearl girl. It has a few things I don't care for, but I along with Barack Obama will not part with my Blackberry.
And I think the sad part is we are 3 years behind Japan with the cell phone technology!

Cell phones have been both a blessing and curse for teachers.
I remember the first time I called a parent of a student who would not stop talking and pay attention in class using my first (I think it was called) "transportable cell phone." Ah, the beauty of celluar technology.
The curse - the way the kiddies can text each other using half a thumb with their hand behind their back or else where while class is going on. I can see a time where we will have to ban cell phones from the school campus.
My first phone was that Motorola Flip that you have pictured there. I got it from Orange, just like the picture.
I owned Widows Smart Phones for the 5 years from '03-'08. I now have a Palm Centro. It's OK. I LOVE touch screens. I find it so hard to use phones that don't have touch screens now!
I'm in the middle of writing a sermon in my head about cell phones. I have the illustration, I just don't know what I'm illustrating yet!
I've kind of grown up in the cell phone graduation. Kids in my class were getting cell phones as early as 4th grade. My first phone was one of the first with an actual screen on it. I remember playing black and white snake and it was awesome

my progression has been much like yours...the bag phone, the BIG phone but no bag...the big flip phone, then the smaller phones. I went through a smart phone phase but now have a flip phone that also has a keyboard for texting....
Maybe in 2 years I will get a blackberry...but I doubt it.
My first mobile phone was the size of a brick and sank like one when I dropped it in the sea!
blackberry peral, I really like it. When I am able to upgrade I think I would like to upgrade to the curve though.
You know what was cool yesterday? I was a way from my computer all day, so I was able to read all of your comments on my phone as they came in.
My dad had one of the first car phones and it would make the car honk when a call came through. I love the crackberries now too!

After I retired from management with it's mandatory cell phone, I was so relieved not to ever have to have a cell phone again! I love my life without being at everyone's beck and call every moment of every day!!!
Katie and I just got an iphone a couple weeks ago, and I just couldn't be more in love. I knew I would love this thing (for two year's I've been drooling over it), but I love it even more than I thought it would.

My blackberry with the hard plastic pink case is attached to my right hand. I noticed a new vein popping out and wonder if I go to the doctor what they'll call it. "Oh, ma'am, you have what is known as blackberry vein." Nice. As if it weren't enough for a mom to have 'em on her legs.
I do not have a cell phone. I'm hoping that eventually I'll get a Guinness Book record for being the last person on earth to own a cell phone. I'm sure that will be soon!
