IT'S OFFICIAL, I'M LEAVING ...
I'm leaving on a jet plane and flying to .....

If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you know that I have fallen in love with the Honduras work and ministry of Marc & Terri Tindall. Marc and Terri are the ones who help head up the dump ministry that feeds hundreds of poor people who live and eat the scraps of garbage at the dump.

This morning I booked airline tickets to fly there this August and spend a week helping Mark & Terri with this ministry. There are 5 of us going. I'm taking two of my boys, Parker & Connor, who will get a chance to grow in some amazing ways. Also going is a former AIM student who worked in Honduras (he'll know his way around) and one of my closest friends.

I can't begin to imagine how I will be affected by this ministry, but here are a couple of comments by people who have been there, "It's a place so poor that people live in shelters made of sticks and garbage bags at the city dump so they can find scraps of food to eat. I gotta tell you that I wasn't prepared for this experience. The smell was what you would expect only stronger." Another said, "These people were filthy and smelly. Some of their hands had so much black filth on them that I cannot imagine them ever being clean again, no matter how much scrubbing was done. Small boys, about 8 - 11 years old, were there alone with no family."

Pictures from the dump...

People searching for food along with birds who are fighting for the same thing.

Thankfully people come and feed... Jesus said, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat...?" And when the people asked, "Jesus when did we see you hungry..." Jesus said, "Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me."

This past May you helped raise $11,500 to help feed the dump people and I can't wait to see your money at work when we take food to them. Thank you again for the financial support you've given to feed hungry people through the Dump Ministry.

That's great, Trey! Marc & Terri are the best! We love them like family--and in Christ they are!

The Dump is amazing--it will change your life--as will all of the work being done in Honduras by marc & Terri and Torch.

Trey,
I have not been to that part of Honduras, but the sections I have worked in had people who were beautiful in heart. Their lives are a struggle, even the wealthy among them do not compare the the poor among us. You will leave a part of you in Honduras and you will come home changed. One young person I took to Honduras, decided she no longer needed the A/C at home set on 68' and that she could go w/o as much TV/entertainment as she had thought she needed.

I pray for God to be your help on this mission effort.

You really are awesome Trey. I know we will read some eye-opening blogs after your visit.

I can't even imagine living the people have to live...and trust me; I have a very vivid imagination.

We really don't comprehend how truly blessed we are and what we take for granted.

I'm so glad you are going. The people of Honduras own a piece of my heart. I'm sure this will not be your only trip there.

SWEEEEET!

That wasn't a hard one to guess though. If you were going somewhere, it would either be to see your son or to Honduras!

Keep us updated!

Trey, I am so excited for you! This will definately be one of the most awesome experiences of your life. I had guessed that this was, probably, what your surprise was going to be. I know Marc and Terri are, equally, excited that you are coming. I don't know about leaving your heart in San Francisco, but you, most assuredly, will be leaving your heart in Honduras. This is something that happens to most everyone going there. The people are beautiful, happy people, even though they have such a struggle on a day to day basis. Just goes to show you that "THINGS" are not what makes us happy. God will bless you as you bless others.

Glad you're going down. I have some dear friends who are in some part of Honduras doing mission work. The poverty you describe is what we saw on the several trips we took down to San Felipe, Mexico. They, too, were dump dwellers, living in boxes or shacks thrown together with anything they could find in the dump. They are also some of the sweetest people I've ever met!

The one memory that still stands out is seeing a weird glow coming from the shell of a Ford van. A family was living in this van and the eerie glow was from a large screen television in the back of the van! They were using the metal grill from a charcoal grill for an antenna. Their kids were playing with a flat football and having a great time. We take so much for granted in our country.

I think this is an awesome opportunity. I once had a student from there that had a special place in my heart. She wrote about dreaming that birds would snatch her up & take her to Heaven to feast at a table with chairs, forks, and plates full of food that smelt good. Since reading about this through you, I've wondered if this is the kind of place she came from & if so, how amazed I am by her accomplishments. May you blessed by this mission & bless those in your journey.

Pretty cool. We are looking forward to the blessing of having you and the gang here. Thank you for your willingness to help us work in one of the darkest places on earth. Even though, in the darkness, there is light and hope. See you in August.
