Wow, that's amazing. In the U.S., it's pretty bad at Chicago Midway. You descend over a neighborhood and as soon as tires touch, they hit the brakes and put the engines on full drag. You'd swear you were landing on an aircraft carrier.

I don't know why, but I thought about the trip we went on when I was a kid up Pike's Peak on the cog train. The guide was telling us of all the safty features and how if something went wrong the brakes would hold us and all. Then he said if all that failed there was a big spring at the bottom backed up by a huge spring. Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs.

This reminds me of when I landed in Cebu, Philippines. Absolute nightmare, except we came in over water. I only saw land for about 5 seconds before we landed, and the overhead bins rattled and banged because we had to stop so short! I'm super jealous that you get to go to Honduras!!!

I was on a flight last year where the pilot took special pains to warn us ahead of time: Yes, we are supposed to curve around the mountain. Yes, we are supposed to fly that close to those houses. Yes, we are going to be able to stop.

Of course, a week after that a plane overshot the runway, closing the airport for several months.

For some reason, I don't mind the landing there. I don't like taking off - all that engine revving and then a quick upswing and almost taking off the head of the statue of Jesus... I can't wait to do it all again!

I remember that landing. It's a neat experience and it brings backs some great memories. I think they had to put the airport there - it's the longest stretch of flat land anywhere near Teguc. ;-)
