(DAVID COOK): The Morgan family got to spend a little time with extended family this past weekend. The picture of the girl on the left is Jenny, one of Lea's cousins we watched grow up into a beautiful wife and mother. I did her and her husband's wedding a few years ago. What I didn't know is that she is friends with American Idol's David Cook. I told her I didn't believe her, so she showed me this picture. Sure enough ... Jenny and David Cook.

- I'm thinking that I love Sundays. Yesterday was an awesome day. God was worshipped, the church building was packed, visitors were present and the singing was fabulous. Now, if we could just figure out a way to get the preaching to improve. :)
Some religious blogs are, "...too immersed in the spiritual realm, blah, blah, blah."
- I'm thinking that I don't know how or why my blog was reviewed over at Blog-Search-Engine.com this week, but I sure appreciate their kind words. I thought it was cool that TreyMorgan.net is currently being listed as a feature blog. I did get a chuckle out of the part that said some religious blogs are, "...too immersed in the spiritual realm, blah, blah, blah."
- I'm thinking that the testosterone was thick Thursday night at the For Men Only Garage Bible study. I had 14 men show up and a few call and say they couldn't make it, but would be there next week. We're studying about Samson and learning from his mistakes; how to be real men. I did have a couple of Mandles burning just to give the garage a manly smell. :)
- I'm thinking that I'm excited about the Morgan family going to Dallas this weekend. We're going to catch a Texas Ranger game Friday night and do a little relaxing on Saturday. Then on Sunday I'm preaching at the Lakeside Church of Christ in Mansfield, Texas. Mine and Lea's former youth minister, Shawn Williams, is the preacher there. Shawn had a big influence on Lea and I when we were in high school. I'm always a little nervous around Shawn, because he knew me when I was a teenager, and I'm sure he could tell everyone a couple of bad things I've done (smile). Lea is safe though, she was as perfect back then as she is today!
- I'm thinking I'm sad for Evan today. Evan is one of our high school seniors at church and spends quite a bit of time at my house. Last night Evan took a turn on a dirt road a little too quickly and wound up wrecking his pickup. Evan was fine but the truck was not. I went and helped him pull his pickup out of the ditch. I hurt for Evan last night. It's never easy having to tell your mom and dad you wrecked your vehicle (I know, I've been there). Evan, is a regular reader of this blog, so I'd like to say to him, "Hang in there buddy, it's going to be okay."
How about leaving Evan a word of encouragement today? He could use it!

I was in Tulsa last week for their Soul Winning Workshop with my two oldest boys (Taylor and Parker) and Ryan, the kid I call my fifth son. (Zack, in the blue AIM shirt, is a new friend who's headed to Scotland.) While I was gone, Lea wrote a couple of posts for me (here and here). What an amazing wife I have. Not only did she post, but did you notice she did what looked a lot like a "Top 10" list. You know me, I love top ten lists. Once again it goes to show you, I married up! I do need to give a shout out to my new friend Tucker who was willing to drive numerous hours with his family of five, just to, in his words, "Meet his blogging idols." He told me that he had made it his goal to come to Tulsa to meet Craig Hicks, John Dobbs and myself. He came up to me at CiCi's pizza on Friday and introduced himself. What a super nice guy. I think Tucker got his wish and met all three of us. I just hope we didn't let him down. Ha!

I've been asking Lea to post for a long time. I think she got tired of me asking, so she gave in and said, "Yes." I didn't know what she was going to write about, but she used a suggestion from one of you readers. There were a lot of good suggestions made (except the one by my former friend David, about "Ten things the Church in Childress doesn't know about Trey - ha).
As promised, Lea will post tomorrow and I'm excited. As for the topic? It will be on one of these following suggestions from you...
- Embarrassing Trey stories!
- How does Trey keep you number one in his life behind God.
- Top 10 joys and disappointments of being a ministers wife.
- Why I don't like putting up Christmas trees early.
- The stress of being a minister's wife.
- How do you stay in love with your husband after 20+ years.
- How to keep a refrigerator full with 4 boys and a preacher's salary?
- Motorcycle? (Nope - My mom said "No" under the comments section).
- Lea starts her own blog? (Can't see her doing that).
- Put up the Christmas tree? (Awesome thought, but I know she'd say no).
- NASCAR? (As much as I wish ... nope!)
- A Baby? (Holy smokes, people, I'm too old!).
- Something to do with sex? (Nope, but I was a little surprised that it took till comment 14 for someone to think of it).
Corny, yes, but I've been asking Lea for months to be a guest blogger on my blog. Okay, I know it's not as exciting as a baby or a motorcycle, but it is to me. Lea's personality is both quiet and reserved. She's not big on having attention drawn to her, but she's so full of wisdom. I honestly didn't think she'd ever agree to this. I've asked her if she could do something for us next week, and she said she would. I feel a little like the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8).
What's she going to write? I actually have no idea (which kind of scares me). Lea may share her thoughts about being a minister's wife or about being the mother of four boys (five if you include me). I've given her a couple of ideas, but I just don't know what she's cooking up. I'm not sure she knows yet, but I told her she could do anything she wants. But you might help her out and give her an idea ...
Do you have any ideas for a good post from Lea next week?
Two weeks ago at my Uncle Roy's funeral, I visited with my friend Donnie. Just a couple of years earlier Donnie's son had died unexpectedly. Donnie was doing well but told me that after his son passed away he had made it his goal to tell people what he thought about them while they were still alive. Then he looked at me and told me, "I'm thankful that Roy was one that I sent a note to." I stood there wishing I would have sent him a note or told him what he meant to me. At just 59 years old, everyone thought he had many more years. Now I'm stuck with believing that Roy knew that I loved him, but I would have felt better if I could have just told Roy before he was gone.
It's been since the funeral that I've committed to myself to tell people more often how I really feel about them. I've done a pretty good job over the past two weeks. Just yesterday I stopped a man at church that I highly respect, but had never told him how I felt. It took about two minutes to tell him just how much I love, admire and respect him. It felt good and was the right thing to do.
I plan to keep it up and that brings me to today. Today I wish to tell you, in all seriousness, how humbled and honored I am that you take a few minutes of your day to stop by this blog. I appreciate your reading and taking time to comment. You have blessed my life. Thank you for allowing me to share this ministry with you.
How about today you take the challenge of telling just one person how much they mean to you?
I read through a lot of blogs each week. Last night while catching up on some of my blog reading, I noticed I was picking out my favorite blogs to read. There have always been blogs I like and then there are blogs I really like. I don't know about you, but there are a few specific things that draw me into a good blog. Here are four things I really like in a blog:
- Present a relevant thought.
- Challenge my thinking.
- Make me laugh.
- Definitely, keep it short.
- What do you think makes a good blog?
- Why do you read the blogs that you do?

- CHRISTMAS TREES: I asked Lea if we could put up the Christmas tree before Thanksgiving and she said "No! Wait till after Thanksgiving." We even had a poll on TreyMorgan.net to see if I should get to. The final tally came out to "59 for and 52 against." May I just say you 52 "against" people are party-poopers. Lea actually relented and told me I could put up the tree if I wanted, but believe it or not, we just haven't had time. We're hoping to get it done this weekend. I can't wait.
- THANKSGIVING: We're headed to Amarillo this weekend for Thanksgiving with Lea's family. We swap out having Thanksgiving and Christmas with each family every year. I'm looking forward to a plate full of turkey, dressing (my favorite) and cranberry sauce. Thankfully we'll plan the meal around the Dallas Cowboy football game.
- COWBOYS: We had about 15 high school kids over at our house last night watching the Dallas Cowboys game. Wow, can they ever get loud when something good happens. Who would have ever thought that the Cowboys would get off to a 9-1 start. Looks like their only real weakness is Roy Williams trying to cover receivers.
- HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Parker starts basketball games this week. Living in a town that's out in the middle of nowhere will require lots of driving to out of town games. Good thing that gas is only 3.09 per gallon right now. :)
- NEW CHRISTIAN: I was thrilled to witness a new brother confessing Jesus as his savior and being baptized last week. What made this one so memorable? The man who became a Christian was an old cowboy who had lived life hard without much thought to where he'd spend eternity. We became friends following the funeral (I told you about him here) of a mutual friend. He began questioning how he was living his life about 2 months ago and called me last week to talk about it. He was baptized Thursday afternoon. As I was preaching Sunday morning, I looked out in the crowd of people and saw him sitting there worshiping with us. Too cool. Most people who knew him couldn't believe he was "at church!" After services I told him, "See, I told you if you'd come the roof wouldn't fall in!" :)
- FAVORITE POSTS: I told you last week I was thinking about my favorite posts over the last year. This was my very first post on this blog, so it has to be one of my favorites. This is my favorite post about my kids and how I can see God in our relationship. This is my favorite post about church and what it should look like. BUT, if I could only keep one post from my entire first year of posts, hands down, it'd be this one.
Quick question: What's your favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving Day?
About one year ago I was encouraged by my Blog-Mother, Mommy Smart, to start a blog. She helped me get started and encouraged me daily during that dull first month. So today I celebrate my blog's 1st birthday. On November 14, 2006, "Rediscovering Church" was born. A few months later "Rediscovering Church" was changed to simply "Trey Morgan.net." Now as I look back on one full year of blogging one thing comes to my mind, "I can't believe I've stuck with this thing for a whole year."Seriously, one year later, and 80,000 visitors later, I am amazed at how my life has been blessed by all of the wonderful friends I have made through this blog. You have become such a blessing in my life. I enjoy your comments, your opinions, your emails and your friendship.
As I spent some time this week looking back over a year's worth of posts, I had mixed emotions. Some posts I read I thought, "Wow, that was harsh. Did I really say that?" and others I thought, "What was I thinking when I wrote that?" All in all, I've loved sharing my thoughts. My goal when I started this blog was to post about the church and what God wanted it to be. Things changed over the course of a year, and my focus was more on marriage and family than anything else. I also got to thinking about what my favorite post was. If I had to delete every post on my blog but one, which one would I leave as my favorite post? I'll give you the answer later this week.
At the bottom of my blog there is an item called a site meter that tells me that hundreds of people visit everyday from all over the world. I think that is so cool. While some choose to leave comments, many still don't - and that's okay. But if I had one "blog birthday wish" today it would be for all those who stop by to leave me a comment telling me who you are and where you're from. If you're uncomfortable leaving a name, you can just leave me your initials. I'd love to know where you are from.
I don't know how long I'll keep on blogging, but I have to admit that the first year has been a lot of fun. My prayer is that this blog has been as much of a blessing in your life as it has been mine. Thanks for being my friend. :)
Trey

I'm already tired of talking about last Tuesday's vote. Had I not promised you yesterday that I'd tell you about getting called a name, I would have skipped this altogether.
I found the following quote in the "comments" section of this story about the Childress wet verses dry issue. Here's the quote about those who were against going wet.
"When you have a group of people in a community that do not allow it to grow the town will die. Alcohol is not the issue here, it is a close minded religious sect that attempts to impose their beliefs on everyone."
Ouch. I never thought of myself as being a part of a close minded religious sect. Funny thing is 98% of all the people in Childress, Texas considers themselves to be a "Christian" or "Religious," but because you choose to vote "no" you immediately become part of a, "close minded religious sect that attempts to impose their beliefs on everyone." Interesting.
For a very brief second when I read it, my feelings were hurt, and then I remembered this.

I had a little fun with the sermon this last week. Believe it or not, it's okay to have a little fun in a sermon. I started a new series called "So Easy a Caveman Could Do It!" And no, I didn't dress up like a caveman. It deals with the fact that so many times we take things God intended to be easy and make them difficult. If we'd just do things like God wanted us to instead of complicating things ... our lives would be much simpler. So this past Sunday's lesson was "Doing Good - So Easy a Caveman Could Do It." Stop by here and listen if you want. Next week I'm doing "Salvation - So Easy a Caveman Could Do It."

One of the coolest things about having a blog is I get to meet so many people. I love getting an email from people and getting to know them better. I've been blessed over the last couple of weeks with a bunch of new friends dropping me a line. I heard from a guy named Clyde this morning. Looks like he's got a great blog, so I can't wait to add him to the blog roll. Ran into my old friend Jamie yesterday. I hadn't seen the guy since we were in school together about 20 years ago, and then I opened my email and there he was. Too cool. Shawn, my old youth minister, emailed me about two weeks ago. I've loved catching up with him and may even get to go spend a weekend with him very soon. Then there's sweet Beverly from Georgia and Raja from India, and I can't leave out Steven, Douglas, Caleta, David, Kathy and Susie. All who I've met in just the last couple of weeks. Blogging has been amazing, and I've enjoyed all the new acquaintances and old friends.

I've also learned that my mom likes it when I post about family news and put up pictures up of her grandsons. It helps her to see what's going on in the Morgan family. So Mom, here are some pictures for you. I love you.
Taylor asked to go to an Atlanta Braves game for his 18th birthday. So here are Taylor, Parker and I in Houston at Minute Maid Park, to see the Braves play the Astros. Although it was a 1000 mile trip in less than 24 hours, we still had a great time.
Out in front of the baseball stadium you'll find Parker & Taylor with a statue of Craig Biggio who played for the Astros.
Parker just beats the throw to second as he slides in safely for a stolen base. There were a few people standing around watching us take different poses with the statues. I'm sure they thought we were a little weird.
For Parker's 16th birthday he got a Texas Ranger's jersey and of course the old pickup that you can see here.
Mom, as you know we measure the boys every year on their birthday to see how much they've grown. Parker was 6'4'' this year (about an inch taller than me).
Cooper's turn to being measured. Although he's not quite 6'4'' he told us, "One day I will be."
Cooper riding the bicycle he picked out for his 6th birthday. The brakes on the new bicycle work much better than the brakes on this one (ha). It was a big crash.
Connor got Taylor his favorite thing for his 16th birthday ... a bag of Starburst. Mom, can you tell that Connor has spent the entire summer out in the sun? Parker, Taylor and Ryan Wakefield. Ryan is the one we call our 5th son, and he's Taylor's best friend. We spent a lot of time raising and feeding this kid. Ryan and Taylor are planning on doing AIM together next year. This picture was taken at camp this summer. I have another picture, just like this one, that I took about 10 years ago at the same cross. All three of the boys in the same pose. Pretty cool to see how they've changed.
Mom, I just had to put this one in of Lea. Even after spending all day working in the sun, dirt and heat in Mexico City, she's still absolutely beautiful isn't she?

While looking back at some of my 300 different posts yesterday I found something strangely interesting. I've done two posts over the past year that are still extremely popular. It left me asking myself, "Why would my most popular posts be these two?" I'm not talking about which posts had the most comments, but which are the most popular by the number of hits they generate. I still get tons of hits on these two posts everyday from Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines. One of the two, hands down, is my most popular post and the second is not far behind. Here's a random list of 8 posts. Can you guess the two most popular?
- 10 Traits of a Healthy Church
- Emotional Affairs
- Why Ministers Quit
- The Church is for Weirdos Too
- Ten Reasons I Don't Like People who Complain
- Free Porn or Porn Free
- Ten Things that will Make your Wife Happy
- The Most Popular Bible Translations
----------------------------------------
I got the "Extreme Home Makeover" sermon series off to a good start this past Sunday. The first lesson was "Hiring the Right Contractor" (Click to Listen). Just to get a point across during the sermon, I wore a tool belt and then later used a hard hat to make an application.
My wife Lea is so good to me ... after church she told me that it was not only a good sermon, but that I also looked incredibly hot in the tool belt :) I think I've just added a tool belt to my Christmas list!!!

- What happens after you die?
- I have a dream (about the church).
- Things that frustrate me.
- How to be a better blogger.
- What is a "real" man?
- What is modest dress?
- Questions about men that women want answered.
- Church words that aren't biblical words.
I'm glad God's not like that. God is not only a good starter, but He's an even better finisher. Do you remember the old children's song, "He's still working on me, to make me all I have to be...?" I'm extremely thankful that He's not finished with me. I'm so far from where I want to be spiritually, and I've got so many flaws in my life that need serious work. I struggle spiritually, and I need God's help. As I cry out to the Lord, "Father, I'm a spiritual failure and I look nothing like your Son," I'm reminded He gently answers, "Trey, don't give up. I'm not finished with you yet."

- Craig Hicks - Craig's blog is both honest and real. Craig will make you laugh at one moment and pull at your heart strings the next. Craig shares his heart like no other blog I've seen. He hides nothing and pulls no punches. I love Craig's blog!
- Brandon and Katie Price - Brandon and Katie are a young couple doing mission work in Ukraine. I have absolutely fallen in love with this young couple and their desire to do God's work. Their love for God and ability to reach the lost is amazing. Because of their spiritual adventures they write about everyday, their blog has become a regular stop for me.
- Rex Boyles - Let me just warn you ... if you're not wanting to be challenged or touched then stay far away from Rex's blog. Rex's blog will open your eyes to a Jesus you may never have seen. Some of Rex's posts will make you uncomfortable ... and there is NOTHING wrong with that. I have been so blessed by Rex's teaching for years and now he's blessing me with his blog too.
- Matt Howell - Matt is a loving husband, a great dad, a deacon and my friend. Matt just started blogging about two weeks ago. Matt has the ability to find some great spiritual applications in his everyday activities. Matt's blog is one of my regular stops too. Stop by and say "hello" to Matt when you get time.

"Yeah, looks that way right now...it is shifting some to the south but looks like it could be a direct hit. We are getting ready none the less. We have boarded up windows, moved a lot of furniture, and are getting the shelter ready at the church. We will be going to the church building tomorrow which is a hurricane refuge for the city and hang out there with a couple hundred people till it is over. Please be praying for us! WE will get back in touch when it is over and let everyone know how we are doing. I will be getting back into it after the storm."
It's been three days and I have yet to hear anything from Theresa. Please keep her and all those in Mexico in your prayers. If you get a chance drop by her blog and let her know you're praying for her.

Lea and I are headed to Bristol, Tennessee this weekend for the NASCAR rases (insert redneck preacher's joke here) with another couple from Childress. The other couple we're going with attend at the Methodist church. Rickey asked me last week if we were going to try and convert him and his wife Angie while we were on this trip together. I told him we didn't really want him, but we'd sure like to have his wife, Angie. :)
I'm really pumped about getting to spend some time away with Lea ... without our kids. As you know, sometimes when you still have children at home, your wife plays the role of your children's mother more often than she is plays the role of your wife. That's why time away from your kids is extremely important in every marriage. There has to be a relationship outside your children. So, it'll be good to spend some time with my wife this weekend and not my children's mother.
Oh, and make sure you watch for me on television Saturday night, I'll be sitting on the start/finish line with the big sign that reads "Real men love NASCAR." :)

Sometimes it seems everything on my blog is very serious. Then there are times that everything is spiritual in nature. But for the past week it seems everything has been just the opposite. Every post this last week has seemed like it's a cartoons, family news or not so serious stuff. Sorry about that. I hope that doesn't bother you. I'll get back to the "serious" stuff soon enough.
Since we're talking about not-so-serious stuff lately, let me add that the other day I over heard a group of teenagers that were talking and one of them said, "did you know that I read that we only use 10% of our brains?" To which one of the others replied, "Wow, if we're only using 10% of our brains now, can you imagine what we could do in this world if we just used the other 60%?" That made me laugh out loud.

- I got spammed yesterday. Fifty-seven times someone posted on the comment sections of my blog a link for "cheap Canadian Viagra." It took me a couple of hours to delete all of them. I had to turn on the "word verification" for comments. I don't know about you, but I hate doing word verification just to leave a comment. I'll leave the word verification turned on for a while and then turn it back off and see if they are gone.
- We took a quick three day vacation this week. We went to Dallas where we lounged by a pool, relaxed and then caught a Texas Ranger's baseball game. The lowly Rangers were playing the even worse Kansas City Royals. My friend Dane got us some great tickets twenty-three rows up and right behind home plate. In the eighth inning we had an usher that I'd been visiting with, ask if we'd like to go sit on the front row. I told him we'd love to. He moved us down to the the very first row right behind home plate. That was awesome. We also caught a ball during warm ups before the game and then later had two players and the manager sign it. Although the Royals won the game we still had a blast. I don't think I mentioned that it was dollar hot dog night. The four of us polished off 18 hot dogs during the game.
- Parker, who will turn 16 in about a month, bought his first vehicle this week. It's a 1996 Chevy Z-71 pickup. We had been looking for a while and he was wanting a pickup. The body is dinged up in places, but mechanically it's a good pickup. Besides we can use it for hunting, cutting wood, and working and leave my pickup in the garage.
- The Childress church has a new web page http://www.childresschurchofchrist.com/. It's nothing fancy, just a way for people to find us and information about the church. Swing by, take a look and tell me what you think. All it cost me was $10 for the domain name. I did the rest of it for free with Wordpress.
- I'm in the middle of a sermon series on Sunday's called, "Our Modern Moral Dilemmas." It focuses on how the values and morals of our nation and families have changed in the past 50 years. The second lesson in the series "Television, Satan's Favorite Tool," is posted on the sermon link if you want to listen.
Have a great weekend, and if you're in need of some cheap Canadian Viagra, just let me know ... I think I still have the link :)
Parker & his new pickup!

- SEARCHERS: Those that come to this site for the first time from search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. They are brought here because of a search they've done. My prayer for them is that when they make a stop by here for the first time they'll find something that catches their attention. They'll read something about God, His church, faith, love, marriage or family and they'll want to know more.
- LURKERS: I love lurkers. They are the majority around here. A lurker is someone who is a regular reader but never makes a comment. They're more comfortable being anonymous, hiding behind the scenes and not making their presence known. They don't leave comments and that's absolutely fine. I'm blessed by lurkers and welcome them all. I do find it interesting that this month I've had two regular readers, who are lurkers, come out of hiding and email me to say hello.
- COMMENT MAKERS: You guys know who you are. You are the ones that read and choose to leave a comment. Let me say from the bottom of my heart, I love your comments. I read everyone and sometimes read them twice. Although I don't always respond to every comment, I never take anything you say lightly. You encourage me, challenge me and strengthen me by your comments. You make me smile when you say something funny and sometimes I even laugh out loud. While I've enjoyed getting to know many of you through the blogging community, I know that many of us will not meet face to face till someday when we enjoy heaven together. And that will be alright, because we'll have plenty of time to get to know one another then.
You know ... I'm really looking forward to heaven ...
Yee Haw! A few months ago my wife made a comment in passing on my blog about how much she wishes I'd get her tickets to the Saturday night race a Bristol, Tennessee. Yea, right Lea. Like that would ever happen. We'll honey, we're going to Bristol in two weeks for the "Sharpie 500."Labels: Blogging, Morgan Family
